Pinion-spotted Pug Eupithecia insigniata
This species is rather scarce in Norfolk. It's mostly recorded near the north and north-west coasts of the county though there are quite a few records from the Brecks and the south and east of Norwich down to Stoke Holy Cross (per Norfolk Moths website). Elsewhere it is very thin on the ground, though a record from Litcham gives me hope that it might be lurking not too far from me. Its larvae feed on Hawthorn which grows everywhere so I'm not sure which of its requirements cause it to be so scarce.
I've never caught this species but the following individual was trapped by Roger Skeen and shown to me by a friend.
Pinion-spotted Pug Eupithecia insigniata, Heacham (Norfolk, UK), 28th April 2025 (trapped by Roger Skeen)
