Harlequin Duck Histrionicus histrionicus

Often known simply as Harlequin.

There were six here, but I probably didn't capture all six in my photos.

Harlequin is a rare vagrant in the UK, the vast majority of records coming from the north of Scotland. I saw the bird that over-wintered at Wick in early 1991 and then this one which happened to coincide with a visit to the Hebrides.

I think this pair had over-wintered in Monterey Bay. They were seen at the start of a pelagic boat trip out into the bay.
